OUR STORY
Joe’s Barber Shop has been serving McHenry and surrounding areas for over 56 years and counting! Joseph B. Stanek opened in 1963 at its current location. Joe even designed the barber and formerly the beauty shop with skylights, knowing the more natural light the better. Joe served this country fighting in the latter of the Korean War and served McHenry as Mayor from 1973-1985. Before
doing all that, Joe got invited the try out for the minors as Short Stop! Just a few of the highlights, not in the least to mention the many lives he touched as a full-time barber for over 45 years. Joe has always drawn his strength from his beloved wife, Marilyn; their shared faith; and their six children and 10 grand-children.
Bill Bialachowski started working for Joe about 12 years ago and took over as the full-time barber. “Bill the Barber,” was held in high regard by all his patrons/friends. “He never had a bad thing to say about anyone.” Bill was passionate about baseball as well, he was a Cubs fan, so much so; that if it was a nail-biter, he would have to interrupt a haircut to go have a cigarette! He’d listen to the game on the radio. Bill loved to fish and bowl, all the while enjoying 50 years of marriage to Jean; and a close family life. Bill passed away February 7, 2018. He is missed but remembered well.
